Car insurance comparison sites are ideal if you don't have the time or patience to get your own car insurance quotes.

Here's an excellent example.

A young lady just turned 21 has recently passed her driving test and bought a car. She now needs car insurance. Dad advises her to ring round. She does so and get quotes around £1,600.00, then £1,400.00, then £1,200.00. She decides she can afford £100 per month. Dad says' 'keep phoning.'

She gets very excited when she finds a £1,000.00 quote and wants to go for it. Dad says, 'keep phoning.'

The daughter wants to push the button when she gets quoted £800 and gets frenzied when having been quoted £600, dad says,' keep phoning.'.

She thinks dad has lost the plot when she gets quoted £400 and dad dismisses it as a probable con, a lost leader price. When she finds a second quote for the same £400 they compare the deals.

That's a saving of £1,200.00 on the worst quote. A saving of £800.00 on a quote she could afford. That £1,200.00 saving will fuel her car for 12,000 miles.

However impatience could have caused her to pay 2, 4, £600 more for what looked like good quotes. She could afford £800 more.

Then you use a car insurance comparison site. As I say, some people do not have the time or patience for DIY.

The downside is you knock yourself out of the market. Let me explain. The car insurance comparison site promises to get you 25, 50, 100 quotes to compare. At the same time they are claiming you as their customer with those insurance companies to claim their commission if you buy car insurance. That's OK. That's business. Everyone has to make a living.

The consequence is if you are less than satisfied with the quotes collected by the car comparison site and go to shop around for yourself you'll be thwarted. 99 times out of 100 when you phone an insurance company directly they will say they've already quoted you through such&such car comparisons.

So you must always do the DIY thing first and then use a car insurance comparison site if you are not happy. They will get you fair quotes and stop you from jumping in with a high quote if you become frustrated with DIY.

Here's another absolutely excellent story. An ex-drink driver is looking for car insurance. They can't get a quote. Then they get quoted £2,800.00. They carry on searching but nobody else will quote them. Tears in their eyes they have to accept the quote or not return to motoring. Not so. A car insurance comparison site got that same person a quote for £800. A car comparison site saved them £2,000.00, in a lot of cases that's enough to pay the interest on a car loan for 5-years.
